Halloween and Savannah Ghost Tours

Halloween. For me, the word brings a flood of sensations and memories: the bright orange of pumpkins piled high at roadside stands, leaves turning red and gold before they fall, and that beautiful, unmistakable smell of autumn in the air.

Pumpkin spice from the coffee shop. Kids going door to door in the scariest costumes they can find. Fall festivals and bobbing for apples. If you can’t tell already, Halloween holds a very special place in my heart. I can still remember walking the neighborhood with my parents, dressed as some terrible monster, marching up to a stranger’s door and shouting the magic words — “Trick or treat!”

The Magic of Halloween

Every radio station playing “The Monster Mash” and “Purple People Eater.” Hand-painted signs pointing the way to corn mazes and haunted houses. Cool evenings, early darkness, and the whole world leaning happily into the spooky. It was always a magical time of year — the one stretch of the calendar when everybody, young and old, agrees that a good scare is a fine way to spend an evening.

That feeling never left me. If anything, it grew. And it’s a big part of why I do what I do today.

Ghost Stories by the Fire

Halloween was also the perfect time to sit around and tell one another scary stories. For some reason, I was always good at it. I’d get everyone to settle in close, drop my voice, and begin…

I’d have them hanging on every word. And then, just as the fire burned down low and the story reached its terrible end — a sudden JUMP toward the nearest listener would send everyone scattering and shrieking into the dark! There is nothing quite like a well-timed scare among friends, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

Halloween in Haunted Savannah

My love of Halloween — and of telling a good, spine-tingling story — is a big part of why I began leading ghost tours in Savannah. Now, as an adult, I get to walk the dark streets at night and tell guests about this city’s dark history and forgotten lore. And there is no better place on earth to do it.

Savannah is regularly called America’s Most Haunted City, and in October she truly earns the title. The summer heat finally breaks, the evenings cool and darken early, and the Spanish moss hangs heavy over the squares under the glow of the old gas lamps. The historic district practically writes its own ghost story this time of year. With Halloween so close at hand, I honestly can’t think of a better time to join us. The Original Haunted Savannah Tour

This is our flagship — the Original Haunted Savannah Tour that made us a worldwide hit. It winds through the historic district’s most storied squares and buildings, blending true history with the hauntings that have made them famous. It’s a family-friendly Savannah ghost tour — but don’t let that fool you, the scares are very much alive.

Spirits & Scoundrels

Our second tour is Spirits and Scoundrels — our adults-only (18 and up) walk through Savannah’s darker side, served neat with no filter. Starting at 10 p.m. and running late into the night, it dives headfirst into the city’s underbelly: tales of criminals, con artists, and the restless dead who never played by the rules — in life or after. Expect sharp storytelling, gallows humor, true-crime energy, murder, voodoo, and haunted mansions, backed by real paranormal evidence caught by our investigators. This one is not for the faint of heart.
