After years of doing Savannah Ghost Tours, one learns a few pieces of strange or unusual things about the Hostess City. Here is an attempt to list a few of these.
- There are only 612 tombstones in Colonial Park Cemetery but almost 10,000 bodies
- After closing it’s doors to burials, a tombstone was added to Colonial Park Cemetery for a woman named Amie Arnold who died in 1872. She is not buried there and there is no record of her in any other Savannah cemetery.
- The crypts in Colonial Park are made to resemble beds. Headboard in front, footboard in back. They were once even covered by vines to resemble blankets!
- Spanish Moss is not really moss at all. It is in the Pineapple family.
- John Wilkes Booth may have performed at the Savannah Theater while visiting his brother.
- In the movie Forrest Gump, Jenny’s Savannah address is 1947 Henry St. You’ll never find it because it’s a fictional address.
- Juliette Gordon Lowe, founder of the Girl Scouts of America, was born in Savannah and now lies in Laurel Grove Cemetery
- The blues/folk songs Delia and Delia’s Gone are based off of a murder that happened in Savannah in the early 1900’s.

Chris Allen is the founder of Destination Ghost Tours, a historian and storyteller with a lifelong fascination for the darker corners of history. He spends his time uncovering the true stories behind haunted legends, guiding guests through historic cities, and chasing down details that refuse to stay buried. When he is not working, he can usually be found with his partner Arissa, their dog Bear, and their two cats, Trouble and Covu, photographing old places, digging through archives, or disappearing into historical rabbit holes. He believes the best history is honest, atmospheric, and just unsettling enough to linger.
